The Chubby Pickle Shore Bar & Grill takes the responsible service of alcoholic beverages seriously. Our identification policy is designed to comply with New Jersey Alcoholic Beverage Control laws and to protect our guests, employees and liquor license.
New Jersey law prohibits the sale or service of alcoholic beverages to anyone under 21 years of age. Because fraudulent and altered identification has become increasingly sophisticated, The Chubby Pickle maintains a strict identification policy.Â
Identification questions cannot be resolved by telephone, email, text or social media. The person checking identification must physically examine the identification and compare it with the individual presenting it. All final identification decisions are made in person at the door or point of service.
Unfortunately, this means that an individual who is 21 or older may occasionally be denied entry or alcohol service if acceptable identification cannot be produced or our staff cannot reasonably verify the person’s identity or age. When there is doubt, The Chubby Pickle will err on the side of caution.
ACCEPTABLE PRIMARY IDENTIFICATION
The following forms of current, valid government-issued photo identification may be accepted:
Driver’s License or Government-Issued Photo ID
A valid photo driver’s license issued by any U.S. state or an appropriate government-issued photo identification card may be accepted.
If an identification is damaged, altered, expired, questionable, a duplicate or replacement, or if the person presenting it does not sufficiently resemble the photograph, additional identification may be required.
Out-of-state identification may also be subject to additional verification.
IMPORTANT: Guests presenting a VERTICAL driver’s license or state ID must provide a SECOND FORM OF IDENTIFICATION.
Passport
A current, valid government-issued passport with a photograph may be accepted.
If the passport appears damaged, altered or questionable, or if the person presenting it does not reasonably resemble the photograph, it will not be accepted.
Because passport photographs can be several years old, guests whose appearance has changed substantially are encouraged to carry an additional current photo ID.
The Chubby Pickle may decline to accept any identification when staff cannot reasonably determine that the person presenting it is the person pictured.
SECONDARY IDENTIFICATION
Our staff may request additional identification when necessary to verify a guest’s identity.
Helpful secondary identification may include:
Secondary identification does not automatically make an unacceptable primary ID acceptable. The final decision remains with The Chubby Pickle’s management or designated identification checker.
IMPORTANT ID RULES
An identification scanner may be used as one tool in determining whether an identification appears authentic. Passing an ID scanner does not guarantee entry or alcohol service.
A scanner cannot determine whether the person presenting an authentic identification is actually the person to whom the identification was issued. Staff must still compare the guest with the photograph and identification information.
The Chubby Pickle reserves the right to:
New Jersey ABC guidance expressly provides that when there is doubt as to whether a purchaser is at least 21, the sale should not be made.Â
VERTICAL IDENTIFICATION
Any vertically formatted driver’s license or state identification card requires a second form of identification.
This applies even if the individual is 21 years of age or older and the vertical identification has not expired.
The second identification should contain the individual’s name and preferably a photograph. Acceptable secondary identification may include:
A vertical ID by itself will not be accepted for entry or alcohol service at The Chubby Pickle Shore Bar & Grill.
Presenting two forms of identification does not guarantee entry or alcohol service. The identification checker must still reasonably determine that the identification is genuine, that the person presenting it is the person pictured, and that the person is at least 21 years old.
ENTRY AND CONDUCT
Entry may also be refused to anyone who, in the reasonable judgment of management or staff:
Our door staff are responsible for protecting our customers, employees and liquor license. We ask all guests to treat them respectfully.
FIREARMS
Firearms are prohibited at The Chubby Pickle Shore Bar & Grill except where possession is expressly permitted under applicable New Jersey law.
New Jersey currently designates a bar or restaurant where alcohol is served, and other locations where alcohol is sold for consumption on the premises, as a prohibited location for the carrying of firearms under N.J.S.A. 2C:58-4.6(a)(15), subject to statutory exceptions.Â
OUR POLICY
The Chubby Pickle Shore Bar & Grill is in the hospitality business. We want you here.
We invest in our facility, employees, food, beverages, entertainment and events because we want our customers to enjoy themselves.
At the same time, we will not jeopardize our liquor license, our employees’ livelihoods or the safety of our customers by serving alcohol to a minor or accepting identification that our staff cannot reasonably verify.
If you are fortunate enough to look younger than 21, please come prepared with proper identification and, when possible, additional identification.
When in doubt, bring a second ID.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
